My Last Ride

Oh how I Loved to go for a ride in the truck ~ but not on this day.

I am tired and not feeling well ~ I'm dying of liver cancer.

I loved to play in the park and run through the long blades of grass.

Aren't you going to throw a stone so I can find it???

Its been A Looooong Day!

Ball?
Even though I'm tired I will fetch a ball ~ 'cause that's my favorite thing to do!

A Dog's Prayer

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside...for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements...and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth...though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land...for you are my God...and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.  Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you.  Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.
~ Beth Norman Harris

Oh my goodness Robin I am so sorry - I feel for you and understand what you are going through.
On Tuesday my brother and SIL had to put their black lab down because of liver cancer...what a coincidence.
Sending prayers to you.

Robin, my heart goes out to you.
We too have an aging dog and I fear that that time is nearer than I would like it to be. Our pets become our family too and it is so hard to let them go but it's better that they not suffer.
May good memories bring you comfort.

Oh dear Girlfriend.... I promised and vowed that tonight, before I call it a day, I would pay a long overdue visit to your blog. Now you have me bawling like a baby. I am so, so, sorry....and sorry too that I am so very late in expressing my condolences and opening your wound anew. We lost our Gazoo a few months ago as well... Such a hard, hard, thing to do. And I still cry just at the mention of his name. I know, at some level, it was the "right" time, and the "right" thing to do...he was suffering...but, Lord, that didn't make it any easier. I pray that you find some peace and joy in your happy times together and your memories of him....much as I wish it for myself.... Big, Big, Hugs....Robin
