Did you know ~

that yesterday was All Souls Day?
I just happened to see it on the calendar ~ I knew about All Saints Day on Nov 1st ~ but not All Souls Day!
Here's some info ~
All Souls' Day in the United States is dedicated to prayers for the dead.
The Day of the Dead is also celebrated on this day.  Many western churches annually observe All Souls' Day on November 2nd.

All Souls' Day was first instituted at the monastery in Cluny in 993 CE and quickly spread throughout the Christian world.  People held festivals for the dead long before Christianity.  It was Saint Odilo, the abbot of Cluny in France, who in the 10th century, proposed that the day after All Saints' Day be set aside to honor the departed, particularly those whose souls were still in purgatory.  Today the souls of the faithful departed are commemorated.  Although All Souls' Day is observed informally by some Protestants, it is primarily a Roman Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox holy day.

The Day of the Dead celebrations can be traced back to the various indigenous groups, such as the Aztecs and other pre-Hispanic civilizations, from as far back as 3000 years ago.
Skulls were collected and used during rituals to symbolize death and rebirth.

The skull, which symbolizes death and/or rebirth, is used for All Souls' Day.  With regard tot he Day of the Dead, elaborately decorated skulls, including those made of candy, are made for the day.  The Marigold is a traditional flower that is associated with the dead.  Some say that the flower represents the rays of the sun, which is linked with life, so the deceased have not lost their place in the universe.  The raven and the crow have both been linked with death, although some say that the crow tends to be confused with the raven, which they claim is the true symbol associated with death.

Now you know!!!

I didn't put up much Halloween/Fall decorations this year ~ The calendar days were just flying to fast for me this year.

Plus I was putting all my time and energy into making things for my first fall craft show.

I've been wanting to share some pics of my booth ~ So today is the day!

The show was so much fun and I sold lots of goodies!

I'm going to do this one again next year!!!

Here's the few displays I put together on my porch ~

In the month of October we also celebrated Aunt Tootie & Uncle Bruce's 65th wedding anniversary.
Congratulations to you both ~ with lots of Love!!!
Well I better get going we have to meet up with everyone for my Sister Sandy's birthday party!!!

Until Next Time
Happy Memories!
Prim Blessings

Hello Robin-
I never heard of All Soul's Day. Interesting.
Thanks for sharing.
My you were busy getting ready for your craft sale.
Where did you have a booth?
I did 2 craft shows with my Sister this year. We did the Greenville one and Carl Traeger School in Oshkosh.
Did well at both of them. Now, getting ready for Widower's weekend sale, nov.23 rd at my sisters shop, and her Christmas open house on Dec. 7th. Amongst many orders to fill. I have been steadily busy painting for Fall and Christmas since July. Love it, but I am exhausted. Throw in my full time job in there.
Love all your signs. You do an awesome job.
Congratulations to your Aunt and Uncle!
Have a wonderful week.

Sandi

Interesting. I just saw an online tutorial about it as well. Not only does it have fascinating history, but it is another day to get dressed up. Only this time creepy costumes.
